Initial reports suggest suspected militants on Sunday night around 11 p.m. barged into the house of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) worker Abdul Majeed Dar in Shahgund area of Bandipora.
“The militants intended to kidnap the PDP worker. However, his wife Shakeela resisted it. In the scuffle, the woman was stabbed. She succumbed to her injuries in a Srinagar hospital later,” said a police official.
Contrary to the police statement, Mr. Dar said the armed men “were looking for gold and cash”.
“These men asked for the keys of the locker in the house. They took away cash worth Rs. 3 lakh and the gold of my daughter,” Mr. Dar said.
The police said it has registered a case and started an investigation.
Meanwhile, an unidentified militant was killed early this morning in an overnight encounter with security forces in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.
The encounter in a forest area of Handwara, in north Kashmir’s Kupwara, broke out late last night after security forces launched a cordon and search operation there following specific information about the presence of militants. The operation is underway, the official said.
Grenade hurled at CRPF patrol
In a separate incident, militants hurled a grenade on a CRPF patrol in Pulwama’s Tral.
“No one was injured in the explosion” said the police, In a separate incident, the police on Monday arrested four persons along with large quantity of brown sugar and arms and ammunition in Tangdhar Sector of Kupwara district.
